Stuck at a Crossroads in Life? One Question Brings Clarity

We all reach points in life where the path ahead feels uncertain. These crossroads moments can appear when you’re considering a career change, reassessing a relationship, or simply questioning whether the way you’re living still feels right. While it’s tempting to see these moments as obstacles, they’re actually powerful opportunities. With the right mindset, a crossroads can help you find clarity, make confident decisions, and move towards a future that feels more aligned with who you are, but what if you find yourself stuck?

What is a Crossroad Moment?

A crossroads moment appears when the path you’ve been travelling suddenly doesn’t feel right anymore. Imagine looking straight ahead: the future laid out in front of you looks much the same, and it no longer excites you. If you no longer want that future, which way do you head now?

How Might You Feel?

Moments like this can feel unsettling. Particularly if you have been used to following a conventional path.  You might be worried about what other people think, letting people down,  embarrassing yourself and your family.

You might feel confused and fearful – not knowing what to do next.

If your life has followed a well travelled path and has been mostly conventional, it can be daunting to consider venturing into something new.

How will you cope? How will you know what to do?  Can you even dare do something different?

It’d be much easier to ignore this feeling and just continue as you are.

Navigating My Career Crossroads

My crossroads moment came when I realised I no longer wanted to climb the career ladder I’d been on.  I no longer enjoyed what I was doing and a future in that sector did not inspire me.  This realisation was confusing and overwhelming as I didn’t really know what I wanted next, and I was also juggling responsibilities which made it feel like there was a lot to lose. So rather than face the issue head on, I pretended it was all fine and it’d sort itself out.

But of course, ignoring an issue like this is never the answer. Instead I became restless and frustrated, and I felt trapped.  I didn’t feel I had control over the situation.

Regaining Control At Life’s Crossroads

But here’s the truth: it doesn’t have to be like this.

Becoming aware of the patterns and behaviours that keep you stuck is the first step in moving forward and feeling in control.

Not sure which pattern is keeping you stuck? This quick check-in will help you spot which role might be running the show right now – and why it’s holding you back from the clarity and excitement you’re craving.

The Role Keeping Me Stuck

My life had mostly been running on autopilot – definitely the Gold Star Collector.  I hadn’t really made active decisions as I flowed from one phase to the next, ticking off the boxes – education, job, house.  They were just the things you did and so I got on with them. Doing something different was not on the itinerary, I had not been prepared for this, so how in the world do I navigate it?

As a Gold Star Collector (complete the check-in to uncover your role), I’d spent much of my life doing things for external validation. But now I needed to do things for me.

I personally needed to reconnect with myself and what was important to me. And I needed to appreciate that it was ok to try other things and it didn’t have to be all or nothing, but I only learnt that in hindsight.

As we live our lives, we develop routines, patterns, behaviours and beliefs. These are the things that need to change or be challenged when you’re faced with a crossroads.  Ultimately, you need to learn to behave differently in order for change to occur.

These are lessons I have learnt over the years; had I been aware of them earlier, then change probably would have occurred faster.  If I was doing it all again, I would probably do things differently. That’s why I created this check-in – so you don’t have to wait years to see what’s keeping you stuck.
