When you’re thinking about starting an exercise programme it can be overwhelming, particularly if your focus is weight loss and you have a lot to lose. It may feel like an impossible feat, one that you will never achieve, because the results are not immediate.
Are you in your 40s and think it’s too late to start an exercise programme? Well, you’re wrong because it’s never too late to start exercising, in fact, starting now will protect you later in life.
You may have breezed through your 20s and 30s, you didn’t really have to think too much about what you ate or what physical activity you engaged in, you didn’t prioritise your health and you got on just fine.
When we exercise, we need to know why we are exercising and what we want to achieve. Do you want to get stronger and be able to do a full press-up or pull-up, or do you want to improve your co-ordination and be able to juggle for example or maybe you want to lose 5 kilos in weight and gain some muscle tone.
What intensity you exercise at very much depends on your fitness goal as different intensities have different effects on the body. By understanding how different intensities affect us and their different benefits, you can tailor your training to get the most of what you need.
